Blogging turns 10 and turned Me into a Hermit Crab on Clearwater Beach!

Blogging Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Birthday cake blogging turns 10 years oldI was reading Paul Chaney’s blog today, Conversational Media Marketing and he shared that blogging has actually been around for 10 years. As a tribute to blogging he shared his blogging story and encouraged others to do the same. It got me thinking and reflecting and I thought I would take a break from writing about Clearwater Beach Real Estate today and share a little about our blogging journey so far…

Blogging isn’t a Sprint it’s a Marathon

We first learned about blogging a little over a year ago when I attended an Internet Academy with Dean Jackson in Orlando Florida. It was a weekend dedicated to learning how new technology could enhance our real estate business – just one of the many opportunities Jack and take to constantly gain additional education and skills. While there I was able to meet with successful real estate agents and mortgage professionals from around United States and Canada who shared their blogging success stories. They talked about how we could provide more community and real estate information in a more client friendly way by blogging. From there we left with the inspiration to begin our own blog.

Blogging is like the Ironman Triathalon - not a sprintOur first try at blogging was actually a Typepad blog. It was just in it’s infancy (2–3 months old) when I received an invitation from a Brea CA Realtor to join Active Rain, a fast growing real estate social network. We did and it allowed us to learn and improve as bloggers by working with over 20,000 other real estate professionals then – now it’s over 60,000 and still growing.

Well the dirty little secret is “blogging is addicting” and before long we were hooked because it created a great way to share information about Clearwater and Clearwater beach and also start a dialogue with our readers in a safe, no pressure environment.

Ironically we learned that working in a community like Active Rain was a much smarter first step in becoming effective bloggers so we quit working on our typepad blog (only so many hours in a day) and focused all our efforts on our Active Rain blog because it was easy to use and comprehensive for both fellow REALTORS and consumers.

Like many before and after us, once we started blogging on Active Rain and Localism we were able to jump start our effectiveness and got a real blogging education from helpful bloggers like Paul Chaney, Jeff Turner, Ines Hegedus-Garcia, Kristal Kraft, Laurie Manny and too many more to name here. That’s where I learned that blogging’s not a sprint – it’s a marathon and the best blogs, like fine wines when done right get better and better with time as their content grows.

Blogging turned Us into Hermit Crabs

Hermit crab in shell isolated on whiteSo while it is great being a part of a dynamic community like Active Rain we decided we were ready, like the hermit crab, to expand into a larger shell and to start our own website and blog with  the things we’d learned.  We move into a GoDaddy Blog Shell…while it was easy to get started with their turnkey offerings, over time we found that the things we wanted to include on our blog weren’t available through them so we experienced growing pains again and needed to trade in our shell again – we’d outgrown this one and so we went in search of a much bigger shell – something we could grow with and not have to change so quickly.

Now that we knew what we wanted we researched and sought out the best real estate blog design company . Ultimately we chose The Real Estate Tomato, recognized innovators in real estate blogging. We were sold when we shared our vision for our new website/blog and they “got it” – we were then able to work together to create this Clearwater | Clearwater Beach Real Estate Blog – the ultimate hermit crab home.

So today, a year later We’re reflecting on all we’ve learned about blogging and the only thing we know for sure is that while we love our current shell here on Sandbars To Sunsets – we will definitely continue to grow and evolve. For example, we already know more and more video will be coming and so in the future, like the hermit crab, we’ll keep expanding our shell to keep delivering the best information for you – our valued readers.

Thanks for letting me share a little about our journey this past year. How fitting that New Years is around the corner…a great time to reflect and plan for the coming year of improvements and innovations.

So, I’m curious, what’s the pending New Year got you thinking about?

Camping Near Clearwater Beach Florida – Fishing, Biking, Shelling and Sunday\'s Sunset

Clearwater Beach Florida Sunset Series

I’m breaking all the rules this week since this week’s sunset is found south of Clearwater Beach FL  in Tierra Verde Florida and Ft Desoto Park. We’ve even included a video to help share the experience this week. So next week we’ll be back to normal with a sunset quote and the spotlight on one special sunset.

We got to take time off this past week from selling homes and condos on Clearwater Beach Florida to go tent camping in Tierra Verde with my parents who came down from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to spend some quality time with my family and be here to celebrate some family birthdays.

Jack was a trooper and was running back and forth between the campsite and Clearwater Beach since we had clients visiting from Massachusetts along with several buyers working towards closing on their homes for Christmas.

We sometimes sunset over shell keyforget how lucky we are to be able to do “tent camping” along the Gulf beaches near Clearwater for a variety of reasons. First, it’s such comfortable weather it was in the 80’s all week; Second, it’s a bargain when you consider it costs less than $40 per night with electricity, running water, clean and safe facilities and more; Third, it’s truly a piece of waterfront paradise on the Gulf of Mexico.

The best part of camping around Clearwater FL in the winter (ok actually there is one more week of fall left but don’t tell my friends up north) is you get to experience the best parts of Pinellas County Gulf beach living without having to travel very far.

You can go fishing from the park seawall or the gulf of mexico pier; birdwatching along the Great Florida Bird Trail, collecting sand dollars and shelling along the beach, biking through the trails, and just hanging out relaxing in the hammocks – ending each day watching the sun dip below the water with the promise of another beautiful day tomorrow.

If you have a sunset you want to share just email it to me at cyndee@sandbarstosunsets.com

Thanks for allowing me to share a little about the fun we have living in Clearwater Florida and our extensive parks and recreation system in Pinellas County that we feel justified in bragging about.

As the sunset on our week of old fashion family fun at Ft Desoto Park – it was great to experience a week with no gameboys, no TV’s just serene walks, personal talks and hanging out in the hammocks.

I thought you’d get a kick seeing our youngest enjoy sleeping under the Florida stars in shorts – we definitely had perfect Clearwater winter weather.

This is the picture I’ll carry in my mind of “total relaxation and comfort” – isn’t that what we all are looking for. Not to worry, we’ve got lots of great outdoor retreats here in and around Clearwater Florida. We look forward to sharing more special sunsets from our piece of paradise.

Wishing you a great upcoming week – remember not to get too hurried with all the holiday hustle and bustle to enjoy some old fashion fun with your family and friends.

From our family to your’s have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Gotta a local sunset – won’t you share?

Clearwater Florida Holiday Parade Kicks off Day of Downtown Festivities and Fun

Clearwater Florida Celebrates Holidays in Style

Costcos is always big community supporter in Clearwater FloridaClearwater Florida – Today was the City of Clearwater’s Annual Clearwater Holiday Parade and also included a downtown Festival from 11:00 am to 4:00pm.

The Parade began at Crest Lake Park and Cleveland Street was closed from Crest Lake down to Coachman Park.

Here’s a shot of the Costco float with my friend, Tim Glenn, getting into the fun. Costco Wholesale located in the Clearwater Mall is a great supporter of the City of Clearwater and our community activities. We are lucky to have them in our community. Bright House is another company that goes above and beyond and today was no exception – they were here in full force.

the clowns and others shared candy and beads througout the parade. The kids loved itClearwater City Manager Bill Horne festive for the holidaysWhile it was overcast in Clearwater this morning, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. When the parade began it was obvious it showcased Clearwater community pride and participation from some of our leading community organizations like out local Boy Scout and Girls Scout troops, High School Bands, all the Clearwater City Commissioners, the Mayor, Frank Hibbard and the City Manager, Bill Horne, clowns, non-profits, leading businesses and more. We enjoyed festive floats from:

Here are some of the photos I took – thought you’d enjoy the Holiday fun – The great part about Clearwater is that there are always fun things to do here.

Beads and candy were a plenty for the children along the parade route.

Clearwater is a city that hasn’t lost that local flavor of a good city parade.

Good ‘Ole Fashion Fun in Clearwater Florida

Our military was honored in the parade and people cheered as they went by

The Shriners made people smile and they even let little kids take photos on their mini motorcycle. Event he Pinellas Sheriff's Department got involved in the Clearwater Parade
Even Clearwater Pirates got in on the Clearwater Parade fun - they were at home in the crowd handing out beads. This woman was cheered the whole way - what a great way to celebrate Christmas in Clearwater Florida City of Clearwater had quite a float - kicking off the Holiday fun
Local Hooters restauants sent the Hooter Girls - you can tell it's a beautiful day just seeing what everyone is wearing - shorts and a tank top Clearwater High School Tornado Marching Band participated in the parade Complete with clowns representing Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater Florida- Reminding us that Laughter is the best medicine

The Thresher's mascot was popular handing our Thresher baseball flags There are so many fun activities going on in Clearwater and Pinellas County this holiday season.

Tonight there were several Holiday boat parades in Indian Rocks Beach, Madeira Beach and Tarpon Springs.

We have noticed lots of our Clearwater neighborhoods and our neighbors getting into the Christmas spirit with lots of lights and decorations – seems to be a season where everyone is feeling festive.

Maybe it’s part of the effort to remember it’s December when it’s 82 degrees in Clearwater Florida in December. 🙂

Wishing you time with family and friends to enjoy the upcoming week – can you believe there are just 10 days until Christmas – Are you ready?
